Golf in the South West

The counties of Cork and Kerry make up the South West corner of Ireland. This region is a major hub for tourism and is renowned for its nightlife and its popular film and jazz festivals.

This part of Ireland is also home to a peerless collection of golf courses. Try Tralee, Waterville and Dingle for starters. Tralee is a superb Arnold Palmer design and is only a short drive from Dingle. Dingle is a traditional links course and it has the honour of being the most westerly course in Europe. Waterville is judged by some to be one of the world's greatest links and Tiger Woods has been known to practice here before The Open.

The Old Head of Kinsale is a spectacular course sitting on its own promontory that juts into the Atlantic. It is definitely not to be missed.

The oldest course in Kerry is Dooks, a picturesque links that looks out over Dingle Bay. Nearby Kerries and Castlegregory are also worthy of consideration.

No visit to this part of Ireland is complete without playing the world-famous Old Course at Ballybunion. It is one of the jewels of Irish links golf, and although it may not be as long as some of the modern championship courses, it remains an unforgettable experience.
