The West of Ireland covers the counties of Mayo, Galway and Roscommon. It has been described by Tourism Ireland as 'warm, wild and wonderful' and we're not going to argue. This part of Ireland has a rich and varied heritage and beautiful scenery.
The main city here is Galway and there are a number of clubs within easy reach of the city centre. For the adventurous try Galway Bay Golf & Country Club. It's a Christy O'Connor Jnr design situated right next to the Atlantic and many of the greens are exposed to the elements.
For something with more of a parkland feel you could try Galway Golf Club, a much-acclaimed Dr Alistair Mackenzie design, or the popular and picturesque Bearna Golf & Country Club.
Farther west from Galway the coast of Connemara is renowned for its wildly-shaped bays and inlets. Here you will find Connemara Golf Course a challenging Atlantic links course that was designed by Eddie Hackett.
Another must-vist course is Roscommon, a woodland course featuring plenty of water and intrigue. It is courses like this one that prove that Ireland is much more than a haven for links enthusiasts.
No golfing holiday to Ireland is complete without a visit to Galway and its hinterland, so the West is where you should be heading!
