The Shannon Region covers the counties of Clare and Limerick and is famous for its entertainment, art, festivals and, of course, its golf courses.
When Greg Norman opened his Doonbeg course here four years ago he insisted that this was one of the world's most beautiful locations.
Perhaps the most famous course around here is Lahinch. A testing traditional links course set against an awe-inspiring backdrop of rugged landscape. It is full of blind shots and huge, deep bunkers.
Inland, Shannon is a championship parkland course with the River Shannon providing the constant threat of water. Couple this with strategically placed trees and bunkers, and you have a very different test to the windy links courses on the coast.
A number of famous architects have visited the region and left their mark. Robert Trent Jones Snr designed the stunning course at the Adare Manor Estate and Limerick is the work of Dr Alister Mackenzie.
This region also has a number of lesser known gems including Spanish Point and Kilrush in Clare and Rathbane and Newcastle West in Limerick. All well worth a visit!
