Cork is Ireland's third largest city. Considered by many Corkonians to be the real capital of Ireland, it is located on the mouth of the Lee River. The river flows through the city in two main channels and you often find yourself crossing bridges when walking through the city.
Inhabitants of Cork are known to be proud and stout traditionalists. They are also said to be the most talkative of the Irish, something that you become only too aware of as you take in the rousing nightlife.

Corkonians have a passion for sport, namely hurling, a traditional Irish game that somewhat resembles hockey. But it is the game of golf that is perhaps best enjoyed and the number of superb layouts in and around the city will testify to that.

The great thing about Ireland is that no matter where you are you always seem to stumble across a course of authentic quality. Cork Golf Club is the perfect example of a course that is, at times, overlooked in favour of the bigger names. Yet those who have played it agree it is one of the country's finest layouts and perhaps an unsung hero of Irish golf.

Golfers who enjoy the smaller things in life will be happy to learn Cork boasts a number of great little nine-hole layouts such as Dunmore, Coosheen and Doneraile. These are superb courses for beginners to learn the ropes and also for experienced players just out for a little fun.

Cork is a wonderful representation of all that is great about the Emerald Isle. And you can be sure the welcome in the city centre's pubs and restaurants matches that of the welcome in its surrounding golf courses.
