Golf in Barbados

Surrounded by bright blue lapping waters, white sandy beaches and picturesque, beautifully sculpted white country house-type buildings, Barbados might just well be the best place to play golf in the Caribbean.

For some, it is home to the finest championship golf courses, the very best luxury hotel accommodation and the most famous nightlife to keep you entertained where you are not busy sunning yourself on the fairways.

It is also home, no less, to the quite majestic Sandy Lane resort at St James. This immaculate Barbados holiday retreat includes top championship golf, expert cuisine, various sporting activities, a gallery and even its own shopping complex. It is where Tiger Woods married his wife, Elin, a couple of years ago in a cloak of secrecy and where many of the world’s leading players, including our own Colin Montgomerie, who recently declared the venue as one of his favourite golf destinations in the world.

Another top drawer Barbados venue is Royal Westmoreland, set across 500 of the island’s most coveted acres. Like Sandy Lane, it is a private resort but you’d be surprised at the amount of tee times that are up for grabs. The course is a haven of tranquility so be prepared to be pampered should you decided to go the whole way  and spend your entire week in the hotel! It could be the Caribbean holiday of a lifetime!

Barbados Golf & Country Club reopened for business six years ago and has never looked back. It is a stunning test of golf in superb surroundings and should definitely be added to your list, as should Rockley, an enticing nine-holer that surrounded by swimming pools, tennis courses and attractive-looking villas. If you are bringing the clubs with you then Rockley is ideal.

All in all, Barbados might not be your first choice for a sunning golf destination – but that doesn’t mean it isn’t any good. If you’re seeking top-quality golf, the very best in Caribbean accommodation and luxurious nightlife with a touch of sophistication, then Barbados ticks all the boxes.
