Arizona enjoys more days of sunshine a year than any other area in the United States but thats not all its got going for it. Arizona is one of the most stunning places in the world in which to play golf and a quick glance at a picture of any of its course will prove just that.
As you fly into Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport your thoughts begin to focus on the stunning golf courses that await you in Scottsdale and the Valley of the Sun.
Your
full attention should be paid to Rancho Mañana in North Scottsdale,
a pure desert course that requires the finest course-management
skills to succeed.
The Raven at South Mountain is a wonderful, traditional-style golf course in magnificent condition, with the added bonus of exceptionally attentive service. On the Scottsdale TPC Stadium Course, home of the Phoenix Open PGA tour event, is another that should be on any Arizona itinerary.
After that try Grayhawk, home of the Andersen Consulting World Championships, then the unique Sunridge Canyon, where the front nine descends dramatically into a canyon and the back nine rises out again, and, finally, Troon North, an awesome Weiskopf and Morrish design that sets the standard for the rest of the Valley.
On your days off take a trip north to breathtaking Sedona to play golf amongst the giant red rocks or stay on the road to see the majestic Grand Canyon in all its incredible glory.
Perhaps you should visit Tucson, a couple of hours drive south of Phoenix to play Starr Pass, Raven at Sabino Springs, Vistoso or Ventana Canyon. There are so many to play, so much to do, so much to see and so little time - but thats the beauty of any great golfing destination.
